Chairman, Dies
WISCONSIN RAPIDS (AP) - John
E. Alexander, 69, chairman of the
board of the Nekoosa-Edwards
Paper Co., at Port Edwards, died
Wednesday at a Madison hospital.
Mr. Alexander spent his entire
business career, dating back to
1918, with the Nekoosa-Edwards
firm, one of the nation's leading
manufacturers of business, writ-
ing, and printing papers.
He was chief chemist from 1915
to 1925, assistant general manager
from 1925 to 1927, vice-president
and general manager from 1927
to 1934, and became president and
general manager upon the death
of his father, Lewis Alexander in
1934. He retired as president in
1962 to become board chairman
at which time S. A. Casey be-
came president.
Mr. Alexander was well known
for his philanthropies. He was
chief benefactor of the S o u t h
Wood County YMCA, built in 1957,
and was donor of the Wisconsin
Rapids, Nekoosa, and Port Ed-
wards airport property now known
as Alexander field. He was twice
named citizen of the year in Wis-
consin Rapids.
The survivors are his widow,
five daughters and 19 grandchil-
dren.
The funeral will be held at 2
p.m. Saturday at the Community
Methodist Church at Port Ed-
wards.
