I met Sammy at a Orchard St. garage sale in Burbank on Sept. 29, 2007, where she was laying in the shade under an artificial Christmas tree. At the time we were out looking for our own missing cat, Ani, who we pray will return to us safe and sound very soon. So meeting Sammy helped to fill an aching void in our hearts. Sammy was obviously old and looked to be in very poor health, her body emaciated. And yet, despite her problems, she had love and purrs to offer us. The neighbors who fed and offered her various types of shelter said that she had been a stray, living on her own in the 'hood for 10 years ever since her owner passed away. She appeared to be about 15 years old, so she's spent about 2/3 of her life without a forever home. She touched my heart so much. I bought her the cushiest pet bed I could find at Target the next day, and brought it to her. The neighbors said she slept in it for three nights straight until... On Oct. 3, she was reported to to animal control by an anonymous caller. Sammy weighed in at the shelter at 4.5 pounds, and the doctors there diagnosed her with hyperthyroidism, a respiratory infection, major dental issues and kidney failure. They also said Sammy was a boy. I had hoped to give him a forever home, and nurse him back to health, but that was not meant to be. Precious Sammy passed away peacefully at the shelter on the morning he would have become available to adoption. I'd like to think of him being reunited at the Rainbow Bridge with his owner, and healthy once again. Sammy crawled into my heart at first meeting. I will never forget him and wanted the world to know a bit about this little guy too, so I made him this page.
