Daughter of John Abraham VanHyning and Mary Ann Hills. She married her cousin, Charles A. Bussing, on January 5, 1878. By him she had two children, Grace and Bret. Following Charles' death in 1887, she moved to Ohio to live with family. There she married widower John Brown Adams in 1893. They had two children, Nina and Leah.
