Eliza Van Hyning Ecklebarger, daughter of Sylvester and Martha [Curry] Van Hyning, was born in Pike County, Illinois August 17, 1858, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs George Shinnebarger, in Meredosia on November 13, 1920 at 11pm after a short illness, at the age of 62 years, 2 months and 25 days.


The deceased leaves to mourn her loss a husband and six children, Mrs George Shinnebarger of this place, Mrs Mary DeJaynes of Kellerville, Mrs Bertha Davis of Galesburg, Mrs Roy Gray of Versailles, James Ecklebarger of Barry, and William Avery of Meredosia. Two children died in infancy. She also leaves two brothers, Lewis Van Hyning of LaGrange, and Thomas Van Hyning and one sister, Mrs Mario Easley, both of Meredosia; twenty-one grandchildren and one great grandchild.


Early in life she united with the Baptist church and remained faithful until the end. She changed her membership to the church of Christ in this city only a host time ago. Funeral services were held at the home of George Shinnebarger Tuesday afternoon in charge of Reverend Mr McLaughlin of Perry. Interment was in Oakland Cemetery.
