Musician, Composer. Jack Bruce, whose parents were both musicians, traveled extensively in Canada and the United States in his youth, attending 14 different schools. He finished his formal education at Bellahouston Academy and the Royal Scottish Academy of Music, to which he received a scholarship for cello and composition. At the age of 16, he left the academy and eventually found his way to London where he became a member of the influential Alexis Korner's Blues Inc, where Charlie Watts, later to join the Rolling Stones, was the drummer. He played bass guitar in a number of bands throughout the early 1960s, including John Mayall's Blues Breakers and Manfred Mann before teaming with guitarist Eric Clapton and drummer Ginger Baker to form Cream in July of 1966. Widely regarded as being the world's first successful supergroup, Cream would go on to sell over 15 million albums worldwide, on the strengths of psych-rock singles such as "Sunshine of Your Love" and "White Room". Bruce sang most of the lead vocals, with Clapton backing him up and eventually assuming some leads himself. Bruce, with his Gibson EB-3 electric bass, became one of the most famous bassists in rock, influencing the next generation of bassists such as Sting, Geddy Lee and Jeff Berlin and the band would become an influential precursor to bands such as Led Zeppelin, The Jeff Beck Group, Rush and Black Sabbath. In late 1968, Cream broke up and Bruce recorded the album 'Songs for a Tailor.' Over the next several decades, he would tour and record with many other bands and musicians including Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band, Kip Hanrahan, BBM, Gary Moore and Rocket 88. In 1993, Cream was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
