Mrs. Poviach died at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday at Lourdes hospital in Paducah.
A native of Sesser, Ill., Mrs. Poviach retired from Publix Supermarkets of Lakewood, Fla., where she was a cashier. She moved to the Kevil area in 1978 and assisted the elderly as a sitter.
She was a member of Grace Valley Independent Baptist Church of Kevil.
She is survived by two daughters, Betty L. Johnson of Kevil and Henrietta Ross of Paducah; one sister, Lillian H. Walz of Covington; four grandchildren, Eugene Johnson and Josh Johnson, both of Kevil, Tina Waid of Paducah and Mark Ross of Chicago; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Henry Smith; her second husband, John J. Poviach; one brother; and one sister. Her parents were John Gitterle and Jessie Rakestraw Gitterle.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

A surviving granddaughter, Michelle Ross of Paducah, was omitted from the Mary Smith Poviach obituary in Thursday's paper. Also, Mrs. Poviach was a retired cashier for the Publix Supermarkets in Lakeland, Fla.
