Steven was a handsome, intelligent 15 year old when he tragically died in a motorcycle accident on a very cold afternoon. Steven was born on a Cold Thursday morning - very early -and he would die on a very Cold Thursday afternoon - The day before he was born, I had gone into the hospital on Wednesday so that labor could be induced - it took several hours longer than the doctor had expected -they had sent his dad, Earl, out for coffee early that morning after he had been there all day at the hospital and while he was gone, I gave birth to Steven at 3:31am. I was able to tell Earl that he had a Son. There were tears in Earl's eyes. Steven was our second born. His Sister, Tammey, was just two and a half years old. he was a little husky - 18" long and 7 pounds 13 ounces - lots of black hair - He was so precious as all newborn babies are - Over the years he would prove to be so inquisitive and daring - he was walking by the time he was 8 months old - climbing out of his crib by the time he was a year old - His baby brother, David, was born when he was just 15 months old. Steven was climbing up on tables and anything high by the time he was 18 months old - he loved to take things apart (like clocks) just to see how they were made and try to put them back together again - Once when he was just 4 years old, he managed to climb a tree and get up on the roof of the house -- I was hysterical - numerous times he would try things that you would just not imagine - once I was sorting clothes from the hamper and picked up a pair of his little pants (he was about 4 years old), something moved and a frog jumped out from the pocket - scared me silly - he collected lizards and put them in a large glass jar with holes in the lid and once the jar tipped over when I was cleaning his room and the lizards all escaped and again, his Mommy was terrified - He loved his older Sister, Tammey and his little Brother, David, - He also loved his Uncle Willie - Willie was my Parents late life Child - born to Mom and Dad when Mom was 41 and Dad 42 (ten months after I had my Daughter) - Over the years many things took place in Steven's life - He became my confidante when his Dad and I divorced when Steven was 11 years old - He was my Current Husband's "Best Man" when he was just 14 years old (David "walked" me down the Aisle and Tammey was my Maid of Honor) - Steven was given a motorcycle by my ex-husband when he was 15 years old - I did not want him to ride the cycle - The motorcycle was locked up in our garage that cold November afternoon - Steven came home from school with a Friend - I worked for the Government but was sick that particular day - Steven came into the parlor where I was sitting all bundled up by the fireplace - he said his Friend, Cleve, was in the Foyer and he wanted to walk home with him a few blocks away - I asked him to bring his Friend in to meet me - He laughed and said, "Mom, I have been bragging on how pretty you are and you don't look so good right now" - I responded "Thanks a lot" - He grinned that Beautiful infectious Grin and said "Just kidding, Mom, I love you, see you later" - I said "love you, too, be back soon" - For some reason I noticed that they went around towards the back of the house and I got up and went to the back of the house and looked out the window. I saw him and his friend look towards the garage but they walked on - A few minutes later on (probably 30 minutes), A firetruck and EMT went past my house with the sirens going - I thought "how sad, someone is in trouble" - They were going to my Son - He had come back and somehow gotten the cycle and he and his friend had been hit by a car just several blocks away on our Street - My Sweet Baby would die at the scene - My Angel - My little Darling - I would not know for a couple of more hours because his ID had shown his Dad's address and My ex-Husband and my Beautiful Daughter would be the ones who came to the house to tell me and Steven's StepFather - I would go into a deep state of shock and it would be months before I could make any sense out of what happened. Children should outlive their Parents - My Steven was my Heart - to this day and until the day I join him, I miss and love him SO VERY MUCH!!
