Tommy West 45 brother of Lesley Ann Downey 9 victim of The Moors Murders in the 60's died in a house fire with his 7 year old daughter Kimberley. He was house sitting with his son Stuart 9 and his daughter for his step father Alan who was in hospital. A friend of Alans a 41 year old woman named Caz Telfer was also spending the night when the fire broke out. It was later established that Telfer who had taken anti-depressants and alcohol early that night had started a fire in the home which Tommy had put out. After they had gone to bed she started another fire in the living room and ran screaming from the house in the hope she would be hailed as a heroine in the rescue attempt. Before his death Tommy managed to save his son but was unable to save himself and his daughter. Their bodies were found together. Alan who had never gotten over the loss of Lesley and his wife Ann was devastated by the tragedy. All the mementos and photographs he had of Ann and Lesley were lost in the fire.

More than 150 family and friends attended their funeral at Platt Lane Methodist Church in Fallowfield. In Tommy's hearse flowers spelling out "Tommy", "Husband" and "Dad" with one message reading "We will miss all the laughs you gave us". In Kimberley's pink and white flowers spelt out "Kim" and "Sister" while pink and purple bouquets filled the car. Behind the hearses were a procession of 30 cars all filled with mourners who attended the funeral service, led by Minister Deacon Al Henry. After the 45 minute private ceremony the coffins were driven to Southern Cemetery in south Manchester. At least a 100 children and adults had gathered outside Wilbraham Junior School directly opposite the church where Kimberley had been a pupil to pay their respects. Sobbing at the side of the road was Winnie Johnson whose own son Keith Bennett 12 was killed by the Moors Murderers.

Telfer was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to 18 years jail.

I would like to thank R. Neeson who has sponsored Tommy and Kimmy. It is very heartfelt and much appreciated xo
