Richard Goodricke and Muriel Eure were married on November 4, 1578 in Ingleby, York.


The surname of thie family was derived from the lordship of Evre, Buckingham, where Hugh, a younger son of the Bacons of Werkworth, in Northumberland (which Bacons were afterwards known under the name of Cluvering), took up his abode, in the reign of Henry III., and thus became,

Hugh De Evre. He was s. by his son and heir,
Sir John Evre, who in the 35th Edward I., obtained a charter for free-warren, in all his desmesne lands, at Esby, in Cleveland, YoTk; and m the 8th Edward II., was in the expedition then made into Scotland. In two years afterwards. Sir John Evre, was constituted one of the commissioners to negotiate a tnice with the Scots; and in the 12th of the same reign, we find him again in the Scottish wars. From Sir John Evre descended.

Sir Ralph Eure, who m. Katharine, one of the daus. and co-heirs of Sir William Aton, 2nd Lord Aton, and in the 13th Richard made partition with the other co-heirs, of those lands which were of their inheritance; Sir Ralph being at that time sheriff of Northumberland, and governor of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Ho was afterwards sheriff of Yorkshire, and constable of the Castle of York, and again sheriff of Northumberland. Sir Balph Eure was ». by his son,

Sir Ralph Eure, who fell at Towton-field, in the 1st Edward IV., and from him descended,

Sir William Eure, who, in the 30th Heurt VIII., was made captain of the Town and Castle of Berwick-upon-Tweed, and afterwards, being warden of the west marches towards Scotland, was elevated to the peerage, by letters patent, dated 24 February, 1544, as Baron Eure, of Wilton, Durham; his lordship m. Elizabeth, sister of William, Lord Willoughby de Eresby, and had issue,

Ralph (Sir), who being constable of Scarborough Castle, in
the 28th Henrt VIII.. held that fortress so gallantly against
the insurgents, calling themselves the "Pilgrimage of Grace,"
that he was made commander-in-chief of all the king's forces
appointed for guarding the marches towards Scotland. A
post which he defended for several years with great reputa-
tion. Sir Ralph Eure after distinguishing himeelf by many
valiant inroads upon Scotland, fell at lest, in 1544, at the
battle of Halydon Hill He m. Margaret, dau. of Ralph
Bowes, Esq., of StreaUam Castle, Durham, and left
issue,

William Eure, 2nd baron. This nobleman was constituted one of the commissioners in the 29th of Elizabeth, to negotiate a league with Scotland. His lordship m. Margaret, dau. of Sir Edward Dymoke, of Scrivelsby, Lincoln, and had issue, Ralph, his successor.

Compton Eure, in whom, if he survived his nephew, Ralph
Eure, 8th baron, and in his male issue, it any, vested the
barony.
