When Reuben Bardwell was born on December 8, 1836, in Mississippi, his father, Waitsell, was 24 and his mother, Nancy Knight, was 26. He married Mary Ann Virginia Russell and they had six sons and five daughters together between 1866 and 1893. He then married Mary E. Herndon on November 6, 1898, in Hempstead County, Arkansas. He died on April 21, 1916, in Hempstead County, Arkansas, at the age of 79.
He was a farmer. He married Mary Herndon in Nov. 6, 1898 in Hempstead County, Arkansas.

Hope, April 25.-(Special.)- Reuben L. Bardwell, 70 years old, died suddenly at his home four miles east of Hope on Saturday morning. Mr. Bardwell went to the barn to feed his stock, and failing to respond to a call for breakfast, members of the family went in search of him, finding his lifeless body. Mr. Bardwell was a candidate for representative in the recent Democratic primary. He was a Confederate veteran. He is survived by his wife and several children. Burial was in Mouser Cemetery on Sunday afternoon.
