Mrs. Charles D. Sloggett at Rest
The people of St. Marys were shocked Friday afternoon when the news spread around that Mrs. Sloggett, wife of C.D. Sloggett, was dead. Less than a week before, Mrs. Sloggett was out driving in the best of health and spirits. On Monday of last week she contracted a severe cold which developed into pneumonia and Friday afternoon she passed away.
The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon at the Methodist church of this city conducted by the pastor, Rev. Parlette, assisted by Rev. V.H. Biddisen who preached a beautiful and touching sermon of the life and character of the deceased.
Claribel Ramsey was the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T.F. Ramsey and was born near Valencia, Kansas, October 27, 1874. She graduated in music from Bethany College, Topeka, receiving her diploma in 1895. On March 31, 1896 she was married to C.D. Sloggett, of this city. Two children, Ralph and Paul, now aged respectfully three and four years, blessed their union.
Mrs. Sloggett was in every respect a model wife and mother and a noble hearted Christian woman.
To the young husband and two small children we extend sympathy and condolence. In their great sorrow they can have the consolation of knowing that their grief is in some measure shared by every resident of this community, who knew the departed one and admired her for her many virtues and nobleness of character.
