SHREVEPORT, LA – Funeral services for Mr. James M. Goslin, 85, will be held at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Marshall Street at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 31. Officiating will be Dr. Tom Harrison of Broadmoor Baptist Church. Funeral home visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 20. Mr. Goslin was an active member of Broadmoor Baptist Church and assisted in the video department. Interment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery.
James M. Goslin, Jr. was born August 27, 1915 in Calhoun, LA and raised in Ruston, LA. He moved to Shreveport in 1931 where he dedicated seven years to the Shreveport Police Department. From 1944 until his retirement in 1978, he was employed with the Caddo Sheriff's Department as three-term Caddo Parish Sheriff. He was a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the Police Administration School at S.M.U. Mr. Goslin served during WWII in the Philippines as a C.I.D. agent. Among the many honors he received during his lifetime were the Liberty Bell Award, Mr. Shreveport, and Lawman of the Year.
He was preceded in death by Nettye Lewis Goslin, wife of 53 years, parents James & Reita Goslin, brother Thomas B. Goslin, and great granddaughter Megan Goslin. He is survived by his son James Goslin, III and wife Polly Grisby Goslin, sister Ocile Robinson and husband Harold T. Robinson, grandson Michael B. Goslin, all of Shreveport, and granddaughter Melissa Goslin Gernon and husband Neil E. Gernon of New Orleans.
Members of the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Department will serve as pallbearers.
