Sarah V. “Sally” Peterson, 91, of Arnold, passed away Aug. 7, 2015, at her home.

She was born on April 7, 1924, near Arnold to Charles C. and Gertrude K (Williams) Simms. In 1929, she moved with her folks to a ranch south of Dunning. Sarah attended country school through the eighth grade, then went to high school in Arnold. She graduated in 1941. She went to Kearney Teacher’s College for two years. Sally taught school in Burwell and Grand Island. She met her husband, Jim, while teaching in Grand Island.

In 1948, she married James “Jim” O. Peterson. The couple initially lived in Vancouver, Washington, then Evanston, Wyoming, before moving to the Simms ranch located between Dunning and Arnold in 1954. To this union two children were born, Carol Sue and Roger. Jim and Sarah ranched and raised Hereford cattle until their retirement in 1980. The couple then traveled extensively with their camper, which they enjoyed immensely.

Sally was a member of the Arnold United Methodist Church, Legion Auxiliary and Loyal Ladies Sewing Club. She enjoyed making ceramics, cooking and most of all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her caregivers and friends at Riverview Apartments became very dear to her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Gertrude; husband, Jim; daughter, Carol; and son-in-law, Dale Leach.

Survivors include her son, Roger (Shar) Peterson, of Dunning; grandchildren, Nichol (Jim) Kros of Austin, Texas, Carl (Monique) Leach, of Dunning, Kyle Leach, of Arnold, Kayla Leach, of Scottsbluff, and Cole (Jenny) Leach, of Mason City; great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Emily, Colton and Brody Leach, of Dunning, and Audrey, Laura, Beau, Ruby, Eli and Clara Sue Leach, of Mason City.

Services will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 12, at the Arnold United Methodist Church with Pastors Bill Williams and Irving Jennings officiating. Burial will follow at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell. Carpenter Memorial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
