Died in helicopter crash resulting from hostile action in Tay Ninh, South Vietnam. Sergeant First Class, Detachment D, 1 Military Intelligence. Photographer and photo lab specialist. Also served during the Korean Conflict. Entered the service from Philiadephia, Pennsylvania, and was the recipient of the Army Commendation Medal and the Purple Heart. His name is located on Panel 18E, Row 110 of the Vietnam Memorial.

Carmen was the son of Italian immigrants, Sarafinand Katherine (Catarina) Muscara, of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

Date of Birth: October 25, 1933
Home Town: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Length of service 16 years. His tour began on September 1, 1966.
Casualty was on April 28, 1967
HOSTILE, FIXED WING - NONCREW, AIR LOSS, CRASH ON LAND

Detachment D, 1st Military Intelligence Battalion (Air Reconnaissance Support)

Note: There are differences in the records. Some say Carmen was in helicopter & others say fixed-wing airplane. It is claimed that he was killed along with pilot Major Morrison A. Cotner (#71298636) on a Forward Air Control mission flying low in a small airplane over enemy territory to gain intelligence, south of Tuy Hoa in Phu Yen Province, South Vietnam.
