-- ROCK HILL - Mr. Wilbert Barber, 85, of 319 Heyward St., died Dec. 8, 2007, at Piedmont Medical Center. He was born Sept. 3, 1922, to the late Rec. L. A. Barber Sr. and Nannie Barber.
He attended Chester County Schools. He worked for Highland Park Mill Bleachery. He was a member of St. Matthews AME Zion Church over 60 years, where he served as Chairman of General Claim and Deacon and was a member of the choir. He sang at the Apollo in New York.
He is survived by wife, Matilda Williams Barber; sons, William Bruce Barber and Wilbert Phillip Barber; daughters, Janis A. Hall and Joyce A. Williams; and a host of nephews, nieces, grandchildren and cousins.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at St. Matthews AME Zion Church. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.
Parker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
