-- ROCK HILL - Mrs. Martha "Ann" Baxter Bowens, of 837 Midvale Ave., died Saturday, April 21, 2007, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, N.C.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday, April 26, 2007, at Jerusalem Baptist Church in Fort Mill, with the Rev. M.N. Baxter officiating and the Rev. Robert J. Crawford delivering the eulogy. Burial will be at Barber Memorial Cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, she was the daughter of the late McKindley and Johnnie Mae McClure Baxter. She attended Emmett Scott High School and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, where she was a deaconess, president of the Pastor's Aide Society, and a member of the cooking committee and the hymn choir. She loved her family, cooking, and caring for others.

Surviving are her husband of 43 years, Melvin Bowens of the home; one son, Dean Bowens of Rock Hill; three daughters, Marjorie B. Mobley, Trina Bowens and Sharon B. Brown, all of Rock Hill; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four brothers, Wendell Baxter, Charles Baxter, Thomas Baxter and the Rev. M.N. Baxter, all of Rock Hill; one sister, El Doris Barnette of Rock Hill; two aunts, Helen McClure of Rock Hill and Dorothy McClure of Charlotte, N.C.; and adopted children, Caroline and Rico Clavon, Ronnie Mims, John Clawson, Anita Brown, Marcell Hall and April McCullough, all of Rock Hill.

Mrs. Bowens may be viewed from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Robinson Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the home. The body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. Thursday.
