Arwellia Armstrong, 101, of Ponca City, Okla., passed away Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011 in Olathe, Kan. She was born Dec. 27, 1909 in Echo, Ark.

She worked in farming and at St. Joseph Medical Center in Ponca City until retiring in 1979 but continued to provide private care for the elderly until 1988. She was a member of the First Methodist Church of Ponca City.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Christopher C. Clapp and Grace Ella (Earp) Clapp; her husband Arch; a son, Clayton Wayne Armstrong; two brothers, W. Barton Clapp, and Carl O. Clapp; one sister, Mary Frances Clapp; and one grandson, Mark C. Armstrong. She was the last of her generation in the Armstrong/Clapp family.

A funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 22, at Longwood Baptist Church in Ponca City, under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory of Ponca City.

She is survived by one son, F. Dean Armstrong and wife Barbara, of Houston, Texas; one daughter, Christine Armstrong Fisher and husband., Haskel of Olathe, Kan., a daughter-in-law, Virginia (Clayton W.) Armstrong, of Edmond, Okla.; eight grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Her grandchildren, Lisa Armstrong Ancell, Jeffrey D. Armstrong, Chris W. Armstrong, Brad R. Armstrong, Christie Armstrong Blankenship, Matthew Armstrong, Kelly C. Fisher and Shari Fisher Hinds served as pallbearers.
