`Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Hadley, 1730 University Avenue. Mrs. Hadley's name before her marriage was Miss Lillian Outland, and her home was in Beloit. Both Mr. and Mrs. Hadley are graduates of Grellette Academy. Mrs. Hadley is a Twentieth Century Club member, and also of the Liberal Arts Club. She has always been on the Board of Directors of the Y. W. C. A., and has displayed much interest in college affairs, being on the Advisory Board of the Friends University Y. W. C. A. Mr. Hadley is president of the Y. M. C. A., is on the Board of Directors of Friends' University, on the board of the American Indian Institute, and on the State Executive Committee of the Y. M. C. A. The W. S. Hadley Middle School was named for a man who lived on the West Side for many years. William Spencer Hadley was born in Iowa. He moved to Beloit, Kansas in 1876 and attended public schools. After finishing his education, he became a school teacher for several years. In 1901 Mr. Hadley moved to Wichita and was in the banking business in Wichita most of his life.

The 11 room home of the late Lillian E. Hadley, of 1730 University, has been willed to Friends University for use as a residence by the president of Friends University, Dr. David M. Edwards. Wichita Beacon, October 26, 1937, page 20.

William's mother was Lousian Hadley, born March 24, 1836, Surry, North Carolina. Died January 27, 1866, burial information unknown. Looks like the mother died from complications from childbirth. William was born on January 18th and the mother died nine days later.
