Funeral services for Herbert H. Ward, 82, of New Albany, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 30, at Jacobs Chapel United Methodist Church, New Albany, with burial in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park, New Albany. He died Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services.
He was a native of Lincoln, Neb., the son of the late Raymond and Clarissa Ward. He was a self-employed contractor and a member of Jacobs Chapel United Methodist Church where he was one of the "Chicken Men" at the barbecue booth at Harvest Homecoming. He enjoyed his camp Cabywawa and his Florida home in Ft. Myers Beach, Fla.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years Marie Zurschmiede Ward; son David Ward and his wife Brenda of New Albany; daughter Donna Byrd and her husband Steve of New Albany; son-in-law Gary Carmickle; brother Richard Ward and his wife Martha of N.C.; sister Mary Furrow of New Albany; grandchildren Rachel Wingard and her husband Billy, Amy Crump and her husband Craig, Alicia Swank and her husband Corky, Sarah Rose and her husband Brian, and Jeff Marshall; great-grandchildren Lindsay, Daniel and Jordan Wingard, Tori and Kaity Swank, Chelsea and Madisyn Crump, and Sean Rose and Ethan Marshall; and great-great-grandchild Carson Wingard.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley A. Carmickle and a brother, Robert Ward.
