Lawson Francis Very 93; of New Albany

Funeral services for Lawson Francis Very, 93, of New Albany, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 10, at Jacobs Chapel United Methodist Church, New Albany, with burial and full military honors at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park, New Albany. He died peacefully after the illness of the "Long Goodbye" (Alzheimer's disease) on Monday, Feb. 6, 2012, at Autumn Woods Health Campus.
He was a graduate of Silver Creek High School, class of 1935, and a retired salesman for Sears, Roebuck and Co. having worked originally at the old store on Pearl Street in New Albany and later at Green Tree Mall. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 845th Ordnance Depot Co. in the Pacific Theatre and retired from the Indiana National Guard, being the first E-9 in the state of Indiana. He was a member of Jacobs Chapel United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of the Masonic DePauw Lodge #338, and formerly active in the Democratic party as a precinct committeeman for many years and was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution.
The family will forever be grateful to caregiver Nancy Tolle and other SonBlest Elder Care angels Beth, Cindy, Debbie, Evelyn, Paula and Rosemary whose tender loving care allowed him to remain at home as long as possible and for Nancy's and Paula's companionship during his final days. Thank you to the entire staff of Autumn Woods for their support during Lawson's final illness.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret J. Rush Very; two daughters, Beverly Wart and her husband, Jack, of Columbus, and Valerie Tingley and her husband, Doug, of Clarksville; two grandchildren, Julie Wart-Rodriquez, and John Wart and his wife, Stacy, of Columbus; five great-grandchildren; six nieces and nephews; and four stepdaughters, Patty Hays, Helen Scott, Jeannie Stewart and Margaret Schad.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawson Sylvester Very and Mary Eismann Very; his first wife, Maud Linnert Very; and stepson, David Rush.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, at Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville Homes, Oak Street Chapel, New Albany and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, at the church. A Masonic memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.
