He was born January 8, 1958 in Louisville, the son of Roberta M. Jones Butler and the late Thomas F. Butler, Sr.
He attended University of Maryland and graduated from University of Louisville with double degrees in biology and Geology.
Tom was a die-hard liberal and U of L fan. He was the most generous person we knew. He loved peanuts, chess, the Simpsons, liberal TV and his cat, Ripley, named for his favorite movie character. Tom had a great laugh and enormous love for his family. He loved the beach, zingers, junk food and Myrna Loy.
He will be missed forever.
In addition to his father, he is also preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Jim Osborne.
Tom is survived by his loving family; mother, Roberta; sisters, Karen Butler, Kathy Butler and Robin Bufkin (Mike); and his much loved niece, Kaitlyn and nephew Stephen.
A celebration of Tom's life will be 6 p.m. September 26, 2012 at Pearson Ratterman Funeral Home, 12900 Shelbyville Road with visitation prior, from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial gifts in the form of contributions be made to Doctors Without Borders USA, P.O. Box 5030, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5030 or Shamrock Pet Foundation, P.O. Box 24033, Louisville, KY, 40224.
