TERRE HAUTE — William E. Cook, 86, of Terre Haute, died Tuesday morning, Dec. 28, 2010, in Union Hospital.

He was a local attorney with Cook Law Firm.

He was born Dec. 25, 1924, in Terre Haute, to George W. Cook and Clara M. Ehlers Cook.

Survivors include his sister, Frances Cook of Terre Haute; and several cousins including Harry Van Allen of Terre Haute, and Casey Cook of New York. Bill was a graduate of Wiley High School and received his B.A. and J.D. degrees from Indiana University. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Active in politics, Bill was a Vigo County Young Republican chairman, a former precinct committeeman, a delegate to the State Republican Convention and a delegate to two National Republican Conventions. He served on the board of directors of the Terre Haute Symphony Association, and had been president of the board of directors of the Terre Haute Humane Society. He was a member of William Penn Lodge 727 Free & Accepted Masons, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute and Zorah Shrine.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010, in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St., with his cousin, the Rev. Frank Van Allen officiating.

Cremation is scheduled with private burial to take place at Highland Lawn Cemetery at a later date. Visitation is scheduled prior to services on Thursday from 2 to 3:30 p.m.

The family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Red Cross, Wabash Valley Chapter, 700 S. Third St., Terre Haute, IN 47807; or to Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra, 25 N. Sixth St., Terre Haute, IN 47807; or to Terre Haute Humane Society, 1811 S. Fruitridge Ave., Terre Haute, IN 47803.
