Staff Sgt. Jason L. Brown of Magnolia, Texas graduated from Desoto High School in Desoto, Texas in 1997. He then attended and graduated from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas with a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice in 2002. Jason enlisted in the Army in March 2003 and was currently on his second combat tour. He volunteered as a candidate for Special Forces and earned the coveted Green Beret in 2004. He had a great sense of humor and an outgoing personality. His willingness to always lend a helping hand, and especially his love for life were among the memories his friends and family have. He enjoyed the outdoors and in his free time, he hunted, fished and worked in his yard. His military education includes the special forces Advanced urban Combat Course, Jumpmaster Course, Free Fall Parachutist Course, Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officer's Course, Warrior Leaders Course, Basic Airborne Course, Special Forces Qualifications Course and Advanced Explosives Techniques Course. His Awards and Decorations include, The Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global on War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global on War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Overseas Service Medal, Combat Infantryman's Badge, Military Free Fall Parachutist Badge and Special Forces Tab. He died in Sama Village, Iraq, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked using small arms fire and grenades at age 29. Jason was a highly-decorated soldier who received, among other awards, The Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He was due to come home from his second tour of duty in just two weeks.
