-- ROCK HILL Mr. Charlie Baxter Sanderson (C. B.), 91, of Rock Hill, formerly of Evergreen, N.C., died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2010, at the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House in Rock Hill.

Born Oct. 7, 1918, to the late Charlie and Florence Sanderson of Evergreen, C. B. graduated from Allenton High School near Lumberton, N.C., and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a B-17 airplane mechanic in England during World War II. In 1948, he married the former Hilda Marie Powell of Saint Pauls, N.C.

C. B. was a tobacco, corn and poultry farmer in Evergreen, N.C. He helped build and support Boardman Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for 30 years, taught an adult men's Sunday school class, and served as Sunday school superintendent. Upon his retirement in 1982, he moved to Rock Hill, where he was an active member of Oakland Baptist Church, the Rock Hill Optimist Club and the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Hilda, of the home; his son,, Larry Sanderson and wife, Becky, of Rock Hill; his daughters, Linda Blackwell and husband, Eddie, of Rock Hill, and Doris Edwards of Raleigh, N.C.; his grandchildren, Meredith Sanderson Jordan and husband, Jeff, of Hartsville, S.C., Rebecca Sanderson Fisher and husband, Corey, of Rock Hill, Angela Sanderson of Rock Hill, Andy Blackwell of Columbia, S.C., Beth Brown and husband, Derek, of Rock Hill, Donna Howard and husband, Peter, of Cary, N.C., and Darren Edwards and wife, Melissa, of Cary, N.C.; his great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Samuel and Wesley Jordan, Maximus and Adda Fisher, Kaleb and Zoe Brown, Kathryn and Emily Howard, and Caroline and Lauren Edwards; his sister, Colleen Sealy of Raleigh; his brother, Bobby Sanderson of Evergreen, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by six siblings and a great-grandson, Drew Howard.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2010, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, S.C., with Dr. Robert Shrum officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Cemetery with military honors presented by the American Legion Frank Roach Post 34. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
