40th Governor of Michigan. A member of the Republican Party, he served in this position from January 1947 until January 1949. Born Kimber Cornellus Ziegler, the family surname was changed to Sigler during World War I. He received his education at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan, followed in 1918 by a law degree from the Detroit Law School in Detroit, Michigan, and worked for various law firms in southern Michigan. In 1928 he entered politics when he ran as the unsuccessful Democratic candidate for Michigan Attorney General. He later switched to the Republican Party and in 1942 he ran for a seat in the Michigan State Senate from the 8th district. Nicknamed "Hollywood Kim", in November 1946 he was elected Governor of Michigan, defeating former Democratic Governor Murray Van Wagoner. During his tenure, state agencies were reorganized, and the department of administration was created. In 1948 he ran for a second term but was defeated by Democrat G. Mennen Williams. Upon leaving office, he retired from politics. He was killed in a private plane crash at the age of 59.
