HENRY - Charles Vernon Male, 80, of Henry died at 8:05 p.m. Thursday, May 24, 2007 at Perry Memorial Hospital, Princeton.
Charles was born Nov. 29, 1926, in Gardner, to Frank and Ina (McDonald) Male.
He married Dorothy Kinsey Oct. 16, 1945, in North Little Rock, Ark. She survives in Henry.
Also surviving are two sons, Danny J. (Susan) Male of Las Cruces, N.M., and Edwin C. (Lora) Male, of Magnolia;
four grandchildren, Kathy Bonham, Brian Male and Steve and Scott Hoover; six great-grandchildren;
two brothers, Robert Male and Harold Male, both of Morris;
two sisters, Ardella Harris of Gravies Mills, Mo., and Leah Christsen of Gardner; and a
sister-in-law, Helen Knibbs, of Verona.
His parents; one son, James R. Male; two brothers; and two sisters preceded him in death.
Charles was of the Methodist faith, a member of the Mason Lodge 119 of Henry, past Master of the Gardner Lodge, Scottish Rite of Free Masonry 32nd degree, Peoria and Sahib Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S. of Sarasota, Fla. He had just received his 50-year membership pin. He also was a member of the Lacon Country Club. His hobbies included playing golf, fishing and, most of all, his glass etching for which he was known and sold many pieces.
Charles served a two-year apprenticeship with the Missouri Pacific Railroad Shop in North Little Rock from 1946 to 1948. He was later employed at the Joliet arsenal from 1948 to 1965 as a maintenance foreman, then B.F. Goodrich Co. in Henry from 1965 to 1982 as a maintenance engineer.
After his retirement, he and his wife moved to Florida for 20 years. They returned to Henry in 2004.
Charles served his country in WWII in the Army with the 11th Airborne Division, Paratroopers and the Korean War in the Marines in the tank platoon.
A memorial visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2007, at Calvert-Johnson and McKitrick Memorial Home, Henry. The Henry Mason Lodge 119 will hold a Masonic service at 11 a.m.
Burial of ashes will be in Henry Cemetery.
Military services will be conducted by the Henry American Legion.
Memorials may be made to the Henry United Methodist Church.
