SPARLAND - Joseph Schwarz Kessling, 63, of Sparland died at 6:08 a.m. Thursday Sept. 27, 2012, at his residence.
Joe was born July 5, 1949, in Spring Valley, Ill., to Alverne and Mary Margaret (Schwarz) Kessling. He married Sharon Mattingly on Feb. 8, 1969, at St. Mary's Church in Henry, Ill. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Heath (Erin) Kessling of Edelstein, Brian Kessling of Sparland and Nickolas (Donna) Kessling of Henry; his grandchildren, Kirsten, Kara, Cameron, Caleb, Kennedy Olivia, Dakota, Nadia, Nakeita and Daphaney; two brothers, Gregg (Mary) Kessling of Joliet and Bill (Kay) Kessling of Metamora; one sister, Kathy (Eric) Harrison of East Peoria; and his in-laws, Leon (Jean) Mattingly of Henry.
His parents preceded him in death
Joe had served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, working as an aircraft repairman. He attended Nashville Diesel Automotive Tech in Nashville, Tenn. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Henry American Legion.
Joe was a farmer and was currently employed at Poly One for 44 years and operated K-Plus Lawn Care. He was a ranch hand for the Magnan Ranch. He was also a salesman for Funk's Seed Corn and Conklin Products.
He will be remembered for his collection of Allis Chalmers tractors, his love of Dodge trucks, his sense of humor, quick wit and love of good jokes. He never met a stranger. He loved his family and will be greatly missed by many.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday Oct. 1, 2012, at Calvert & Johnson Memorial Home, 513 Carroll St., Henry, with a prayer service at 8 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Henry. Father Tom Mizeur will officiate.
Military rites will be accorded by the Henry American Legion following the Mass. Cremation rites will be accorded following the service. Inurnment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Henry, at a later date.
