Army Sgt. Ashcraft was assigned to the Company A, 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Killed near Al Hawd when the convoy he was traveling in fell under attack from gunfire and rocket-propelled grenades. The attack at about 2:30 a.m. came in the middle of the desert as the convoy traveled toward Qayyarah, 185 miles north of Baghdad. Ashcraft's division led the fiery assault in northern Iraq that killed Uday and Qusay Hussein. Evan was an accomplished student and musician who planned to join the police department upon his scheduled discharge from the Army in January. He loved spaghetti-o's, rocky road ice cream, macaroni and cheese, and applesauce. As he grew up, he wore only Vans old school sneakers. Evan was a dedicated friend and a man who loved his family and children. For his exemplary military service and the valor he exhibited in rescuing two soldiers from a disabled vehicle in April, he has been awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star medals. Evan was posthumously promoted to Sergeant and is survived by his wife, Ashley.
