Marcine Barr Marcine J. Barr, 87, formerly of Rock Island, born in Ashland, Wis., passed away peacefully on Monday, March 26, 2007.

"Mom" will be buried on Monday, April 9, at Mount Hope Cemetery, where a short memorial will be held.In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the George Barr Athletic Scholarship Award at Northland College.

"Cya" is the daughter of Petra and Benjamin Andersen, and sister to Olivia, Bernice, Arnold, Eleanor, Lorraine, Delores and Beverly, who all preceded her in death. Her last years were spent looking forward to time with her grandchildren and dreading her all-too-frequent dialysis treatments. Thank God they don't have those in heaven!

To the Stelling family she was "Non," and she followed them to Colorado and then Arizona, where she spent the last seven years enjoying grandsons Matt and Zach, and great-granddaughter, Saige. Her youngest daughter, Linda, became her chauffeur, pharmacist, escort in travels and weekly lunch date.In some ways, the mother-daughter roles were reversed and both accepted that gracefully. And son-in-law, Doug, was more like a second son to Non.

Last October, "Grandma Barr" moved to San Antonio to be closer with daughter Mary, and twin grandchildren, Jayne and Jon. At 87, another cross-country trip found her in Texas Hill Country. Mary and Jayne took over the care of her; they took charge in true Texas style! Eldest daughter Christy, and son-in-law Greg, provided more than just Julie, Suzanne and Peter. Three great-grandchildren were added to the Barr legacy in the last two years, Bryce, Claire and Abby.

Waiting for her in heaven is her beloved son and husband. Son, Jeffrey Towns left behind a son in Illinois, Charles D. Barr, her red-haired grandson. Also waiting for her is husband, George Barr, the famed Doolittle Tokyo Raider. After serving 3 1/2years as a prisoner of war, George was the last to return home, but considered himself a lucky man tohave found Marcine, who became his warm and loving wife. They were married in Ashland in 1946.

She was known as a "fun grandma," a "foxy grandma," and even the neighbor kids called her "Non." Most who knew her considered her to be a devoted wife and mother, one of the sweetest people they'd ever met and a master at cooking meatballs. Her meatballs were always on request!

Sister, Beverly J (1924-1928) #38904024 is nearby.
