The following is written by John Stine's son, Richard J. Stine:

Dad was born and raised in Rockford, Illinois. He married Virginia V. Griffin on February 14, 1959. I was born in 1960.

Dad was a member and past-president of Rockford, IL Jaycees. He worked at Illinois National Bank in Rockford.

Our family moved to Ilion, NY in 1966 to be closer to my mom's family, the Griffins. My parents adopted my sister Michele in 1967.

Dad worked at Oneida National Bank in Ilion; he later worked for Richard (Dick) Whitney in Herkimer at Whitney Auto Sales. Later he moved on to work with Larry Gookins at Frankfort Valley Auto Sales.

While at Frankfort Valley, Dad took the position of police dispatcher at the Ilion Police Department on the night shift. While at Ilion PD, Dad grew close with this elite professional group. He and one officer would compare with one another who had the most money in his pocket that night. He would share pizza fritte with another officer at the local fair or state fair.

Dad donated his time announcing at local softball charity events.

While growing up around Dad, the following phrase could be heard at Little League, softball tournaments and family events: "No harm!" he would yell.

He was a wonderful father, and a loving grandfather to Heather, Samantha and Jesse.
