Died at LeRoy on Feb 25, George W. Betz, aged 84 yrs., 7 mos, 9 days. funeral at the home Feb. 27, conducted by Rev. J. B. Buckey.

After an illness of two weeks, George W. Betz, a well known and highly respected veteran of the Civil war, passed quietly away last Saturday at his home in LeRoy. Mr. Betz was born in Norton township, Summit county, Ohio, July 19, 1837, being one of a family of five sons and two daughters. The youngest brother, John, of Loyal Oak, surviving. Four of the brothers served in the Civil war. The deceased entered service in Augutst, 1862, and served three years, and was appointed color bearer corporal and sargeant, Co. H., 104th O. V. I. He was wounded in the battle of Franklin, Tenn., Nov. 30, 1864 and this resulted in the loss of the use of his left arm, the bone being removed from shoulder to elbow. Mr. Betz was married July 3, 1867, to Hannah Van Hyning, and this union was blessed with three daughters, Mrs. J. H. Freeman, of Great Falls, Mont. Mrs, E. L. Powers of Marion, Ala., and Miss Gertrude Betz, at home, all of whom were present at their father's bedside. Mr. and Mrs. Betz moved to Spencer in 1868, where they resided until the fall of 1919, when they moved to LeRoy. The funeral services, while not announced, were attended by a large number of friends and neighbors and were conducted at the home Monday afternoon by Rev. J. B. Buckey and interment was made in LeRoy cemetery.
