Henry was born in the Benson home, on the south side of Lake Road, now Fralden Terraces. He served in the Union Army during the Civil War. Henry and Ursula ("Wat and Suli") raised choice tobacco as did their neighbors on the bank of Lake Erie on Lake Road. They would hand roll the cigars in the evenings. There was also a cigar factory on Lake Road where Ursula worked as a girl. Henry was a Sunday School superintendent and Ursula taught Sunday School at the Amboy Methodist Church for many years.
