He is the brother of Dr. William Ballinger

"OLIVER S. BALLINGER, farmer, P. O,. East Liberty; was born Sept. 14, 1839; is the fifth son and seventh child of Joshua and Delilah (Inskeep) Ballinger; Joshua was born in February 1802 in Burlington Co., N. J. and emigrated to this State with his father, Samuel Ballinger, who settled in what is now known as Zane Tp in 1809 […] At the age of 29, he was married to Louisa A.
