World War II Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in London, England, he served as a Major in the 8th Battalion, Argyll and Sutherlands highlanders, British Army. On April 23, 1943, in actions at Longstop Hill, Tunisia, Major Anderson assumed command of the battalion when his commanding officer was killed. Although with himself being wounded in the leg he went on and eventually occupied the objective. His force was reduced to about 44 officers and men, he personally led successful attacks on several machine-gun posts and mortars, plus captured 200 prisoners. For most prestigious gallantry, he was awarded the Victoria Cross. He later was killed in action at Termoli, Italy. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
