WINSTON-SALEM - Emory D. "Snookie" Frye, Sr., passed away Friday, August 6, 2010 at Forsyth Memorial Hospital. He was born February 12, 1932, to Harrison C. and Myrtle J. Frye. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Mack Frye; one sister, Grace Blakley; two step brothers, Henry and Frank Hege; numerous infant brothers and sisters; and a grandson, Rick Simpson. He retired from RJ Reynolds Trucking with 24 years of service. His hobbies were hunting, fishing, raising beautiful gardens, and telling tales, some true and some not so true, take your pick. "Snookie" enjoyed life, making people laugh, and never met a stranger. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, 11 months, and 6 days, Diane Griffin Frye. Four children, Tammy (Ricky) Simpson, Pat Simpson, Kim (Derrick) Anthony, and Emory D. Frye, Jr. Six grandchildren, Brandon and Daniel (Carla) Speaks, Matthew and Michael (Jenny) Simpson, Sydney Frye, and Harrison Anthony. Three great grandchildren, Grayce, Ross, and Kate Simpson, a special sister-in-law Lynn Longworth, and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Sunday, August 8, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The funeral will be Monday, August 9, at 11:00 a.m. at Voglers Reynolda Chapel. The Rev. Duncan Martin will officiate. Please dress casual due to the weather. Burial will follow at Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery in Rural Hall, NC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Hospice of Forsyth County. Many thanks to Dr. K. Basrai, Dr. Nick Chrysson, and our many good friends and family members for their love, gifts, food and prayers.
