He was a native and lifelong apple grower in Henderson County. In his youth, he liked sports and coaching young people. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Pearl Barnwell.
He is survived by his sister, Nancy Lyda of Hendersonville; 2 nieces, Tammy Lyda of Asheville and Jenni Frady and her husband John of Hendersonville, a nephew, Jeff Lyda and his wife Alicia of Hendersonville, a great neice, Jordan Frady; a great nephew, Andrew Lyda and a special cousin, Pat Redden.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 1, 2014 at the Barnwell Family Cemetery with the Rev. Harriett Shands officiating. The family will be at his home.
