He will be remembered for being one of the leading exponents of the party of Democrazia Cristiana and as protagonist of Italian and international political life throughout the second half of the twentieth century. Graduated in Law in 1941 at the Università La Sapienza in Rome, he was a member of the Federazione Universitaria Cattolica Italiana, Director of the Catholic magazine Azione Fucina and from 1946, youngest deputy of the Constituent Assembly of Italy. During his political career Andreotti was seven-times Prime Minister, eight-times Minister of the Defence, five-times of the Foreign Affairs, and held many key roles in several governments in the history of the Italian Republic as well as having served as a member of numerous Parliamentary Committees. On June 1, 1991, President of the Italian Republic Francesco Cossiga appointed him senator for life. He was author of several historical and political essays including "De Gasperi e il suo tempo", "Il senso dello Stato", "Ore 13: il Ministro deve morire", "La Democrazia Cristiana", "A ogni morte di Papa. I papi che ho conosciuto", "L'URSS vista da vicino", "Gli USA visti da vicino", "2000, Quale terzo millennio?". He was awarded with several prestigious Italian and international honors including an honorary degree from the Pontifical Lateran University and the "Real y Americana Orden de Isabel la Católica". Andreotti died after a long illness at his home at the age of ninety-four.
