John Walker Neal was born in Koloa, Kaua'i, on 12 Jan 1865. As a young man, he married Elizabeth K. Mundon, also of Kaua'i, and together they had five children—John Daniel , Maude, Myra, Ralph, and Walker. John was a draughtsman and an inventor. In February 1917 he left his Honolulu home at 1116 Wilder Avenue for the mainland to perfect an invention; he died in Detroit, Michigan, of acute pneumonia.
