Martin C. Bridges, 73 years old, well known farmer of Sangamon county, died at his home at Woodside at 6 o'clock yesterday morning following an operaton. Mr. Bridges has been a lifelong resident of the county and was one of the best known cattle raisers in the state. He was operated on ten days ago for gall stones. The operation was not successful and he rapidly became worse.

The decedent was a veteran of the civil war. He joined the 114th Illinois infantry in 1862 as a private and was afterward promoted to drum major. He served in the army for three years.

He is survived by his wife, one son Supervisor D. Joseph Bridges of Loami, one daughter Mrs. Elizabeth Mendenhall of Curran, and seven grandchildren. The funeral will be held tomorrow at the residence. Burial will be in Oak Ridge cemetery. IL State Register, Springfield, IL 8-7-1915
