Married - 18 January 1854 in Morgan County to Ann Gunn, who was his mother's first cousin.

Died, at 6 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 5, 1902, at the family residence, four and one-half miles northwest of Springfield, of stomach trouble, Benjamin P. Bruce, aged 76 years, 5 months, and 15 days. The funeral will be held at 10 o'clock tomorrow morning at the family residence. The interment will be made in Oak Ridge cemetery.

Surviving Mr. Bruce are his wife; one son, William T. Bruce of Garret, Ark.; one brother, F. H. Bruce; and one half-brother, R. E. McAllister, both residing east of the fair grounds.

Mr. Bruce had been a resident of Sangamon county for sixty years. He was among the older residents of the county and was well known as an early settler. He served as a soldier during the civil war and until his death was a member of Stephenson post No. 30, G.A.R. IL State Journal, Springfield, IL 11-6-1902

Note: Benjamin married Mrs. Almerinda Gunn after the death of his first wife Ann Gunn Bruce.
