Died at midnight, Oct. 12, 1914, Edward Broeker, sr., aged 83 years, past. The decedent, who resided at 1114 South Eleventh street, was born in Prussia, and came to this country when a boy. He settled first in St. Louis, where in the earlier part of the civil war he was one of the band who captured Camp Jackson. It was while the war was in progress that he came to Springfield to live.
The decedent married Lizzie Hofferkamp. Surviving are the widow and eight children, four sons, Edward, jr., Gustav A., Robert G. of this city, and Henry of Decatur, and four daughters, Mesdames Ida Wiegand, Sophia Schmidt, Elizabeth M. Tipton and Maude McKee, and several grandchildren. The decedent was the oldest cigarmaker in the city.
