Michael was born at Jacksonville Air Force Base, Arkansas. He resided in Mississippi, New Hampshire, Germany, Oklahoma and California. He graduated from Biloxi High School and attended LSU prior to enlisting in the US Army. He went through infantry training and jump school at Fort Benning. Michael was fatally wounded during Operation Just Cause and was awarded the Bronze Star with V device and Purple Heart. Michael was a cross-country long distance runner and earned numerous trophies/awards.
