PITTS WINSTON-SALEM Elder Marlene Tillman Cox Pitts Jan. 20, 1954 - Mar. 17, 2012 "A light from our household is gone; a voice we love is still, a place is vacant in our home, which never can be filled," Sons Jonathan and Jason Cox Elder Marlene Tillman Cox Pitts also known to her family as "Brenda" was born January 20, 1954 to Mr. Harold Tillman and Mrs. Ollie Bennett Tillman in Union County, NC. She departed this life on Saturday, March 17, 2012 in Houston, TX. She attended West Ansonville Elementary School until she relocated to Winston-Salem where she continued her education at the Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools. She was a 1972 graduate of Parkland Senior High School. She was a graduate of Winston-Salem Bible College with an Associate's Degree and Bachelor's Degree in Christian Education. She was licensed to preach and called into the ministry at Mount Carmel Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. A.T. Griffey, III on October 26, 2003. She received her Master's Degree in Ministry from Vintage Bible College in 2006. Elder Pitts was currently employed at Reynolds American Tobacco Company with 39 years of service as a MIE Audit Controller. She was also an Avon Representative. She was a faithful member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church for 40 plus years until her health began to fail. Elder Pitts was the first Directress of the Inspirational Choir, a Sunday School teacher, an Associate Minister, Praise & Dance Team coordinator, Mime Interpreter artist, and Girl Scout Leader. Elder Pitts was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters and two brothers. She leaves not to mourn but to cherish her memories, two sons, Mr. Jonathan L. Cox, Jr. and Jason L. Cox of the home; three nieces who were like sisters, Mrs. Hazel T. (George) Stinson, III of the city, Mrs. Debra T. (Charles) Mercer of Cary, NC, and Ms. Stephanie Hayes of the city; one nephew who was like a brother, Rev. Michael (Eunice) Tillman of Houston, TX; three granddaughters, Ms. Evante and Miahaja Williams of Newnan, GA, and Ms. JaKhia Cox of the city; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Jonas Tillman of the city; 17 nephews; 11 nieces and a host of great-great nephews and nieces, cousins, other relatives, friends, Church family and admirers. Homegoing services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 24, 2012 at Mount Carmel Baptist Church where Pastor Daryl Young is Senior Pastor and Rev. Michael Tillman will deliver the Eulogy. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12 noon until 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Church.
