William Oliver "Bill" Mabe, 81, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday afternoon, January 13, 2013, at his home. He was born September 1, 1931, in Stokes County to Grady and Katherine Stone Mabe. Bill was a 1951 graduate of Walkertown High School and retired from R.J. Reynolds as chief mechanic with 33 years of service. On June 26, 1953, Bill married the love of his life, Mildred Hartsoe. Bill loved restoring antique Model T and Model A cars. He was a faithful member of Walnut Cove Primitive Baptist Church where he was on the board of elders and also lead the music. He also attended Fulp Moravian Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Robert Mabe. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mildred Hartsoe Mabe; a daughter, Cathy Susan Mabe; two granddaughters, Christina Craddock Queen and Lori Lynch and husband Joey; three sisters, Dorothy Ball, Peggy Isley and husband Jerry, and Diane Boles and husband Harry; two brothers, Glen Mabe and wife Judy and Grady Wayne Mabe and wife Brenda; extended family, Gene Reid, Danny and Sheree Thomas, Jeff and Mary Alice Vanhoy, and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.
