ELKIN - Mr. Bennie Dale "Deer Man" Bodenhamer, 65, passed away Monday, June 11, 2012 at the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born in Stokes Co. on June 7, 1947 to the late Gilbert A. "Gib" Bodenhamer and Nellie Louise Boles Bodenhamer.

Bennie retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. with 32 years of service. He served his country proudly during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Army as an Airborne Ranger. Bennie was also a War Chief of the Near River Dwellers Tribe of the Cherokee Nation.

He is survived by his wife Teresa Bodenhamer, Sharon Tickle the mother of his two sons, Danny Bodenhamer and Kevin Bodenhamer, three grandchildren, Danielle, Grason and Taylor "Little Doe", a great-granddaughter, Izabella, his brother, Robert Bodenhamer and wife Betty of Dobson and four nieces and nephews.

A memorial service celebrating Bennie's life will be conducted 4:00 p.m. Thursday, June 14, 2012 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home Chapel in Rural Hall. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Rd., Dobson, NC 27017 or Mountain Valley Hospice, 401 Technology Ln., Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
