Musician and Singer-Songwriter. He is best remembered for the sleeper hit song "Chevy Van." During his teenage years, he founded the band The Devilles, which made a few records for Dixie Records. In 1973, he moved to Atlanta, signed with General Recording, and recorded his first solo record, "Early Morning Love." Two years later, "Chevy Van," one of the songs on the record, reached No. 5 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. Likewise, the song also reached No. 7 on the RPM Magazine charts in Canada. After switching to Elektra, he issued the singles "Love Me Off the Road" and "Common Man." Many of his songs were covered by various renowned artists and bands, such as John Conlee, Conway Twitty, Fu Manchu, and Waylon Jennings. Johns died from a stroke.
