Mrs. Jacob Lowers

At two o'clock Tuesday morning March 16th, Mrs. Jacob Lowers bid goodby(e) sic to the scenes of her earthly life and entered upon the life triumphant. She did not die, for her death was "swallowed up in victory."
Twas not death to die-
To leave, this weary road.
And, Mid the brotherhood on high,
To be at home with God."

She first saw the light at Rockland Aug 1, 1837, the daughter of Christopher and Harriet Levy. She was married Sept. 12, 1855, to Jacob Lowers, of Alum Rock, who died eleven years ago. Ten children wee born to this union, eight of whom survive, viz: Charley, of Chatteroy, Washington; Oliver, of Shippenville, R. R., of Oilfields, Cal; Henry, of Turkey City; E. C., of Okmulgee, Okla; H.S., of Tulsa, Okla; Mrs. Wm. Womer, of Oil City, and Mrs. S.H. Hummel, Bakerstown. Also there survive two brothers, John Levy, Emlenton, and Samuel Levy, Portland, Oregon; four sisters - Mary Ann Gannon, Snydersburg; Nancy Ewing, Clarion, and Amanda M. Henry, of Murdockville, and Sarah Curran, of Emlenton, and twenty-one grandchildren.

For the past eleven years the deceased had made her home with her son, Oliver, at Shippenville, where she endeared herself to all who knew her. She had enjoyed unusual good health up to ten days before her death when she took the LaGrippe. All that medical skill and loving hands could do not stray the progress of the disease and she passed away as above Noted. The deceased was for most of her life a member of the M.E. Church. Her Christian life was consistent and beautiful.

Funeral services were held in the home of her son Oliver, Friday morning, March 19, conducted by her pastor Rev. W. H. Robinson. The Male Quartet of the M.E. Church rendered three very appropriate selections.

Saturday afternoon the remains were conveyed to St. Petersburg- accompanied by all her children and two sisters, the pall bearers Rev. and Mrs. Robinson and other friends of the family. Services were held in the M.E. Church, Rev. Robinson speaking from 116 Psalm, ver 15, Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.

The body was laid away in the St. Petersburg cemetery by the side of her husband, to await the resurrection of the just.
