Army Sgt. Clark was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colorado. He died in Mosul of wounds sustained when U.S. and Iraqi security forces were called to a house that an al-Qaida member had entered wearing a suicide vest. As the forces approached the house, they came under small arms fire and Clark was killed. Michael grew up in Sacramento and Fiddletown and graduated from Amador High School in Sutter Creek, California in 2000. In August 2004, he decided to join the Army to serve his country and give his family a better life. His job as a fire support specialist was to coordinate and determine which enemy targets to fire at. Michael was on his second deployment to Iraq and had been accepted to the Army Ranger School. He was committed to the Army and dedicated to his fellow soldiers. After his first deployment to Iraq, Michael shattered his hip socket in a dirt bike accident but never used it as an excuse not to go back. He had told his mother that if something happened, he couldn't live with himself. In February, he received a medal for pulling four soldiers from a humvee that had been attacked and hit by an IED. Medals during his service include the Army Commendation Medal-2, Army Good Conduct Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal w/Campaign Star-2, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon-2, and Combat Action Badge. Michael loved snowboarding and mountain biking. He loved to ride dirt bikes and owned a custom-built motorcycle and a 1986 Mustang GT. But his family was everything to him โ€“ wife, Nalini, and their four year old son. Bradley Clark, Michael's father, is the director of operations for a company the Defense Department contracts with to transport home our fallen military from overseas. Now, Bradley will be bringing home his only child, Michael.
