Spc. Jacob C. Carroll, 20, of Clemmons, N.C., died Nov. 13 in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, when a suicide bomber detonated a vest bomb and struck his unit. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky. Jake enlisted in the United States Army and volunteered to become an Infantryman. He completed Basic Training followed by Airborne School, and on June 12 2010 became an Army Paratrooper. Jake will always be remembered for his "big smile, big heart and big bear hugs". Remember him always, for he has earned our respect and admiration while distinguishing himself with honor and steadfast courage. Jake's life will forever be defined by loyalty and dedication to others and the amazing manner in which he touched and affected so many lives. Jake is survived by his father Jack Carroll and fiancee Angela Puckett of Clemmons and mother Cole Masear and stepfather William Masear of Archdale. Jake is also survived by his grandparents Dale Mullinnix of High Point and Jack and Maxine Carroll of Morganton. He is also survived by two sisters Meredith Blaire Carroll of High Point, Hallie Grace Carroll of Germanton, two step sisters Brittany Masear and Alexa Masear and a special aunt and uncle Cary and Leigh Mullinnix of Trinity. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to the Jake Carroll Memorial Fund, c/o First Citizens Bank, 11613 N. Main Street, Archdale, NC 27263, or any First Citizens branch. This fund will be used to support Jake's fellow soldiers of Bravo Company, 2/502 Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) serving in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan.
