Alvin was born on his parents farm. He was the 4th child of William Beach and Dealia Clothier.

Alvin spent most of his life working in a Lumber Mill. First with his brother William and then he went on to sell his share to William and go on to work with his brother in law in 1860.

Alvin married Eleanor Hunter and together they had 8 children.
